Williams in court for indecent exposure

Dick Williams, who managed the Oakland Athletics to two World Series titles and later managed the Seattle Mariners, was arrested on an indecent exposure charge while attending the World Series of Fantasy Baseball Camp.

Williams, 70, of Henderson, Nev., was accused of walking naked and masturbating outside his Fort Myers hotel room on Jan. 17, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report.

A woman who worked next door to the hotel called the deputies, and when they knocked on Williams’ door, he was wearing pajamas, the report said.

At a hearing the following day, Williams pleaded no contest and Judge Hugh Starnes withheld judgment, according to court records. Williams was released on time served.

“The case has been settled and dismissed. That is all I have to say,” Williams said.

He began his baseball career as a player in 1951. He spent 13 years with Brooklyn, Baltimore, Boston and Kansas City. He had a career batting average of .260.

As a manager, he took the Boston Red Sox from last place to first and the World Series with the “Impossible Dream” team of 1967.

He managed the Oakland Athletics from 1971-73, winning the Series in 1972 and 1973. He managed the Mariners from May 1986 to June 1988.
